Hello, my name is Sarah Govett and I love writing stories.
I am the award-winning author of the Territory trilogy, the India Smythe series and We Go On Forever and before that I ran a tutoring agency specialising in preparing children for 11+, 13+ and GCSE exams.
In the dim and distant past I read Law at Oxford and qualified as a solicitor in the City.
I do lots of school author visits and am currently King’s College School, Wimbledon’s Writer in Residence. I have been thrilled to see how much children enjoy creative writing workshops. One or two hours, however, isn’t really enough to practise and delve into the craft, so I’ve started running longer holiday workshops in East Sheen. We focus on building up a toolkit of amazing descriptions and emotions that can be used in any story to really make it sing and look at plotting the sort of short stories that the children will be most exposed to.
Praise for Sarah’s teaching:

My husband, the writer Spencer Brown, also teaches some of the courses.
Spencer Brown is a talented writer, director and comedian (ex Cambridge Footlights) and experienced tutor. He is the author of the Tom Cooper books and his historical fiction debut, The Photographer, is out this year. Spencer uses exactly the same approach and techniques I do, working through a booklet and course structure we developed together.
‘A joy-seeking missile’ Richard Ayoade
‘Philip Roth meets Cold Feet’ Helen Lederer
